Cabo’s Other Wild Side – Outdoor Adventures in Cabo with Baja Wild

Filed under: Travel Portal — admin @ 9:09 pm

Cabo San Lucas has grown a reputation for excitement, mostly due to the many clubs that burn the midnight oil well into the early morning hours. Wild party life is nothing new here. But Cabo has another distinct wild side – the rugged beauty of the land and the creatures that inhabit the area. Getting a look at the landscapes and wildlife at the tip of Baja is tops on the list of things to do. So, how does a Cabo visitor find ways to explore the other wild side of this tourist Mecca? You could rent a car and set off on your own with map in hand but what and where are the best things to see? While taking the initiative to explore on your own has it’s own
rewards, having someone with local knowledge guide you makes the most of your time.

While there are many businesses that offer tours and activities geared toward
exposing you to all that southern Baja has to offer, few offer as much value,
knowledge and diversity of activities as Baja Wild. Baja Wild offers eco-adventure
activities that range from surfing, kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, camping, mountain
biking, rock climbing and rappeling, whale watching and turtle release. Whether you
lean towards water based activities or mountain excursions they’ll match your needs
with the appropriate personnel.

One of the more popular eco-tours is a Jeep safari into the Sierra Laguna Biosphere.
Starting out in the early morning hours, participants hop behind the wheel of a Jeep
Wrangler and head out to explore the lesser-known Baja. A stop in San Jose del
Cabo for fresh Mexican pastries and coffee starts your seven-hour adventure.
Depending on the season, you may be joined by others in their Jeeps who will follow
the guide vehicle up the San Jose riverbed, usually dry save for the rainy season.
Here you will see the power of the river where mountains are carved by the force of
storm waters raging to the sea. Venturing further into the interior brings the rugged
beauty that is Baja into clear focus. Towering Cardon cacti, Ironwood trees and
innumerable desert flowers dot the landscape. Your guide will often stop to share
facts and legends about the areas you traverse; which cacti can you get water from,
what types of birds live here, what trees produce edible fruit and what plants should
you keep away from are just a few of the tidbits of information they dole out.

Our guide, Martine Ontiveiros, was full of local knowledge and was able to give us
historical as well as environmental perspectives. Martine, like many of Baja Wild’s
guides, is furthering his education as a travel guide taking courses at the local
university. His love of Baja translates into an infectious joy at being in such a
remarkable geographic area. On one stop, he pointed out a wild plum tree and
backed up his claim that they are edible by biting into a plum he plucked from the
tree. Some of us joined him in sampling the plums, and while not completely ripe,
they are in fact quite tasty. Turning our attention to survival skills, he informed us
that the regions only cactus that can supply potable water is the Barrel cactus. By
cutting into the base of the plant, one can suck water from the roots.

Our caravan continued on into the colonial town of Santiago. Founded in the early
1700’s by Italian Jesuits, Santiago’s claim to fame is a natural desert oasis with a
tremendous supply of fresh water. Climbing a winding dirt road we came to a
promontory where we could look down upon the lush green landscape thick with
palm trees. The stark contrast between arid desert and this emerald green sanctuary
brings to light the diversity of Baja.

Further along we began a slow but steady ascent into the Sierra Laguna Mountains
and our ultimate destination – the Sierra Laguna Biosphere. The Biosphere is a
national park and falls under control of the Mexican government. The area was
declared a Biosphere Reserve in 1994 and is sparsely inhabited, attracting hikers,
mountain bikers and naturalists. It is an ecological wonder where cacti, palms and
pine trees grow side by side, and rock pools form underneath towering granite
boulders.

Several well-maintained hiking trails traverse the mountain range. Among the many
animal species that inhabit the reserve, the mountain lion is the largest predator,
but more commonly seen are coyotes and foxes, as well as smaller mammals such
as kangaroo rats, desert mule deer, gophers and badgers. The vegetation includes
conifer forest, tropical forest, pine and oak forest, palms and thickets. Its human
population is gathered in 96 small ranches that include 124 families. The main
economic activities, in order of importance, are: livestock farming, forestry and
agriculture.

One of the main attractions of the area is a rock pool formed under towering granite
formations. After parking our Jeeps we set off on foot to hike one of the many trails
available. A short hike was highlighted by a stop at the pool. Fed by a waterfall
approximately thirty feet high the water is a welcome opportunity to cool off and
relax. For more ambitious hikers, scaling the rock walls to the top of the falls offers
the chance to dive into the pool. The crystal clear water and sun-warmed rocks
make this the perfect place for a picnic or to simply soak in the natural beauty that
is Baja.

After an hour or so of swimming and exploring, our group hiked back to the Jeeps
and headed back down to San Jose del Cabo for lunch. A casual lunch of tacos and
beer finished off our adventure with Martine answering questions about what we
saw as well as what else there was to see. The experience left us wanting more and
we plan on taking many more trips with the crew of Baja Wild. The hard part is
deciding what to do next.

Venturing out on your own has rewards, but taking advantage of the knowledge and
experience of local guides like those from Baja Wild makes exploration a hit rather
than a hit-and- miss scenario. For more information on all that Baja Wild offers

Imagine Yourself in Key West

Filed under: Travel Portal — admin @ 4:20 pm

You’ve almost reached your breaking point. The walls of your cubicle seem to be closing in on you as you are handed yet another deadline. At home, the laundry and dishes pile up out of nowhere, and you never have the time to catch up. You’ve come to dread the details of modern life; traffic jams, annoying cell phone rings, and your evil, ever-glowing alarm clock. You know that a break will do you good; just a few days spent away from here will be all that you’ll need to maintain your sanity for another year or so.

The antidote to your situation, the salve for your wounds, lies just a few miles out to sea. Casually perched at the very southwest end of the Florida Keys, barely associating itself with the rest of the country, Key West exists as a haven for tired souls. You will arrive looking downtrodden and perhaps a bit pale, but it won’t be long before the flush of youth has returned to your cheeks and you’ve rediscovered the relaxed, fun-loving person that you used to be. Key Westerners love to loosen people up, so book your flight and start stretching.

Now that you’ve built this vacation on such a lofty pedestal, don’t blow it by reserving a gamble of a hotel room that you know nothing about. Before you start to look for an amazing place to stay, just close your eyes and visualize what you want. A bed bigger than your city apartment? Sounds great. Close proximity to the beach and all the hot nightspots? Of course. A shady porch with a rocking chair that reminds you of your grandma? Whatever you like.

Key West is all about pleasure and distinctiveness, so don’t be surprised if the place you have imagined actually exists. The bedspreads might not be your favorite color, but during your time on this quirky island of positive vibes, you’ll learn that some things just don’t matter.

But getting back to your quaint cottage, do you realize that it’s located just down the street from Ernest Hemingway’s house? The palm trees out front and the fenced garden in back give your place a sense of seclusion that a tormented writer would appreciate, yet you are also very near to Duval Street, Mallory Square, and the Historic Lighthouse. Sample all the fun and excitement Key West has to offer by touring the sights and then singing to the sun as it takes its evening plunge. Sample a margarita or two with all your newfound friends, and then return “home” for the best sleep you can ever remember having.

The next glorious morning, hop out of bed whenever you feel like it and then make yourself a quick cup of coffee in the charming little kitchen while you relish the fact that you’re not reading the newspaper or checking your email. Put on your swimsuit, which is the only thing you’ll be wearing all day, and head to the beach. It’ll take you all of five minutes to walk there, and before you know it you’ll be splashing in the surf like a five-year old, goofy grin and all. Congratulations, you’ve officially left it all behind.

Later in the day you can go snorkeling or kayaking, as you’ll surely have recovered your natural born strength and zest for life by now, and then participate in whatever festival, boat race, or artistically-themed activity is going on. There’s always something in Key West, so just go with the flow.

If you’ve now convinced yourself that it’s time to get your passport stamped by the Conch Republic, you’ll need to go online to claim that elegant little bungalow that you know, in your heart, exists.

Visit HomeAway.com to peruse the extensive vacation rental listings, and reserve the one that’s right for you to guarantee a successful trip.

It won’t be too hard to find it, so break yourself away from the daily grind for just a few minutes and reserve the Key West Vacation Rental that has been waiting for you for so long.

Holidays: Tips for Safely Visiting the Relatives

Filed under: Travel Portal — admin @ 3:56 am

Q. The holidays are here again, and I usually go back home to visit my parents with my family. Every year the same subject comes up and everyone is expected to take sides. There was a really bad family dispute when I was a child between my dad’s parents and my mom’s family. I don’t want to get involved in the same old stupid conversations, and I’m not even sure I should go this year. Got any ideas?

A. One of the really nice things about being an adult is that you get to decide whether you want to go and spend tune with family, friends or anyone for that matter.

That powerful fact tends to get lost at this time of year. I think it is a perfectly acceptable choice to not go.

Begin new traditions

If you want, you can use it as an opportunity to begin new and healthier traditions in your own family in your own home.

If you do go…

If you do go, remember that it takes four ingredients to create a no-win, crazy situation.

They are:

Demand to do something.

Demand to do nothing.

The inability to talk about the first two.

The inability to leave the playing field.

Let’s apply it to you. When you were a kid, one side wanted you on their team, as did the other side. Either way, you were going to upset someone. Children get in trouble for pointing out the absurdity of the situation and can’t escape it.

As an adult, however, you have choices that were not available to you then. Now you can comment on the situation. If someone tries to pull you in, remember that it takes at least two people to have a conversation.

You can say, “Thanks, but I’d rather not be a part of that conversation.”

If you get into a conversation that becomes uncomfortable, you can get out of it.

You can say, “I think we need to stop” or “I don’t want to talk about this anymore, thank you.”

The other powerful thing you can do is leave the conversation. That can mean going to another room, going for a walk, running an errand or leaving the house entirely. This is why I always recommend that you have a way to leave should you decide to go.

For instance, if you fly in for a visit, have a rental car at your disposal.

You don’t want to be trapped.

San Diego Vacation Package

Filed under: Travel Portal — admin @ 7:36 pm

A lot packages that San Diego offers are so tempting and ready to take you to most fabulous places you’ll ever dream of. There are San Diego cards that will enable you to see a lot of diverse magnificent places as the boredom-beating museums, natural zoos, animal parks and beautiful sandy beaches at quite low rates, which if you visit on your own may cost you three to four times more expensive without the discount cards. In the same way for almost all events too there are packages for the convenience of visitors. You can benefit yourself by getting one or two packages for you.

The memories of San Diego will keep you fresh even after you return to the dreary life routine, this incredible expedition of curiosity and wonder gives you a nice outlet from everyday tense life. The rocking night of San Diego will lull you to sleep when you’ll reach home from your office. It’s a nice isolated corner of nature not yet exploited by man-made progress; one should visit it at least once in life.

Vacations–a holiday from dull routine life, is something everyone deserves at least once a year. As far as I am concerned, I eagerly await that time. I long to just pack my bag and run far away from this monotonous everyday practice. I am sure everyone enjoys vacations. The only problem I face on a trip is the tiresome trouble of finding a hotel of my choice and in my price range; most of us have to juggle between quality and affordability, getting both at the same time is an impossible task. Many folks who face such a dilemma, end up buying a vacation home. In some cases, it makes sense to buy your own property at the place you love to vacation or retire. Imagine a different scenario though, where your “vacation home” is your favorite resort. What else one can wish for?

There are clearly many advantages of buying a second home at a nice peaceful resort. You get to own the place; it’s an asset and if it’s on a real prime location, then its price is likely to rise. You can decorate it the way you always wanted. If you do end up selling it, you can usually get your money back, and then some. Its a one time investment and your vacation will be quite economical every year otherwise. Moreover you can also rent it out throughout the year or when you are not using it and enjoy the profit.

Then there are side benefits of such an arrangement. Suppose you own a piece of property near a beach where you like to vacation with family. No doubt you’ll enjoy your stay there. But are you prepared to deal with the hassle of maintenance/expense of it’s upkeep and security? After all, you are responsible for all the upkeep of your property, from cutting grass to sanitary work. Property security too will be a constant risk with no one living in it. One can imagine it would be a bear to deal with all such issues. You may not be able to renovate it at the much needed times. If you do with to rent it out in off season, or when you can’t visit yourself you have to vet out the people who are likely to trash your dream home.

There are of course the alternatives. Timeshare is a short-term home owning opportunity. You can buy a vacation home for as little as one week of the year. By availing timeshare opportunity you may be able to enjoy your vacation inexpensively. In general, such properties cost less than staying in hotels. But on the other hand unlike your second home you’ll not get any income from it. Plus you never can predict the ultimate value of a timeshare, should you ever decide to sell it. After all, you are competing with the timeshare people.

In contrast to a timeshare, investment in a fractional ownership allows you to hold on to your partially owned vacation property for much longer time periods. So by investing on fractional ownership vacation homes you can come to your favorite resort as many times as you want, Addition it will definitely cost you less than a comparable stay in a hotel. The price margin for fractional vacation homes for sale is quite fair. So you can also get this financial benefit out of it. On the other hand, the drawback is that you have to coordinate your stay with other people. Furthermore, as these sorts of vacation homes are not rented out, you’ll not be able to get any extra income.

The options we discussed above excluding buying a second home don’t make you a sole owner of any vacation property. If you want to buy a property but also think that you cannot take care of it, plus you are charmed by the idea of getting additional income, the hotel-vacation-home may just be the ticket for you. The way it works is, that you buy luxury vacation home or a vacation home, which is actually a room in a hotel; you buy it and spend your holidays in it any time around the year you want. When you buy a nice furnished room in a hotel, the first benefit is you don’t have to decorate it; it’s already done for you. Room service? You got it! Furthermore you can rent it out. You also don’t have to take extra headaches of maintaining it; the hotel will do that for you. There is a good chance that you can sell it at a great price.

If it seems too good to be true, then it may be so in some of the cases. Like if you buy a room in a hotel and you rent it out afterwards the income would be shared with the hotel. On the other hand, if you room is not rented out you still have to pay the maintenance charges. Then renting out is also very tricky, as you yourself would like to use the room in the prime vacation season. That is why its very difficult to decide when you are going to use it and when to rent it out. The difficult choices are what make life interesting. To talk in more concrete terms, say you long for the beach fun. Perhaps a vacation place in San Diego is what the doctor ordered. San Diego is a paradise of beaches, splashing clear water, sandy coastline a desire of beach admirers.

There are choices for a hotel-vacation-room available in San Diego. Staying in a San Diego hotel and navigating through it’s hotel inventory and paying the prime prices can get tricky though. There are several projects going on including Hard Rock Hotel that is consisted on 420 rooms all condo-hotel rooms for tourist. The price range in San Diego starts from a dollar400,000 “studio suite,” with a kitchen area and one bathroom, to a dollar2.3 million two-bedroom property that’s more similar to an actual condo than a hotel room. Not for everyone, I admit, but definitely an option to consider if you are at a certain price/benefit point.

In case you are intrigued by this option, here are a few tips to consider. Try to project the hotel occupancy rate, as well as the share of hotel rent that you would get out of it. Unless there is a drastic change in the economy, you should be able to predict your income from such a property. This would, in turn be sufficient data for you to do a cost-benefit analysis.

Obviously other options such as timeshares in San Diego as well as fractional units in San Diego also exist. There are few things you should consider before buying any vacation home fully or partially. The location of house is the main key. If a vacation home situated at a prime location, its price would be definitely higher. And on the other hand if you buy a property a bit away from residential area, that area may not be heavily traveled and could be security risk. But then the return would be also much better. For instance, if you rent out your vacation home that is near a beach, you can enjoy the scenic beauty as well as you’ll be getting good money out of it.

Southampton Airport: a cheap gateway to the UK?

Filed under: Travel Portal — admin @ 11:40 pm

The rise of the internet seems to have brought many benefits, one of which has undoubtedly been the increasing flexibility that we now have at our disposal when booking holidays.

This is particularly true in the case of flights. Online flight price comparison websites ensure that we can shop around to seek out the best deal from a variety of agents and airlines.

People flying to and from the United Kingdom have possibly benefited more than most. There seem to be numerous budget airlines based in the UK, allowing easy access to Europe at cheap prices. The new budget airlines have also brought benefits for regional airports – the likes of Exeter, Bournemouth, Doncaster, Southampton and Norwich have been growing a great deal.

Let’s look at one of these specifically – Southampton Airport. This airport on the outskirts of the Southern coastal city was relatively small until recently, specialising in flights to the Channel Islands. The arrival of Flybe has meant that much has changed. There are now flights in and out of Southampton from beautiful cities like Geneva, Paris and Amsterdam. Not to mention the cheap flights available to popular holiday resorts.

Despite this growth, Southampton often seems to be overlooked as an arrival airport for travellers looking to get to the UK on a budget. This is particularly strange given the close proximity of Southampton Airport to London (it is, after all, barely an hour by train from the airport’s dedicated mainline railway station to London Waterloo, in the heart of the capital city).

This short journey time means that Southampton is barely further away from Central London than Stansted. You’ll also find that processing of your baggage at the airport tends to be much faster than that found at more major airports, since there are less incoming flights. Taking this into the equation, you may well find that your journey time could even be reduced.

So next time you’re looking to visit London (or maybe looking for a cheap flight out of the UK) don’t forget to look at the offers available at Southampton Airport. You may find that the prices will come as a pleasant surprise, while the journey into Central London is so straightforward that you’ll not lose any time on your holiday.

The Mood Of Valentine’s Day

Filed under: Travel Portal — admin @ 8:14 pm

Mood. It is something very complicated. One moment, we are in a mood to go out and meet some friends, and the next moment our mood changes. Mood is a state of mind and as most of us have no control over our minds, our mood changes from sad to happy or vice versa.

Valentine’s day is coming. One cannot forget to be in the right mood for that day. Isn’t it? How to do that? How to make sure that on that day, our mood does not become sad or some bad memories don’t overpower us on that day? And that we are in a mood to appreciate our beloved and make him/her feel special.

What makes or decides the mood? First is the atmosphere. When you walk in a cancer ward of a hospital, your mood immediately becomes sad and you begin thinking of pains of life. And if after an hour, you find yourself in a party to celebrate your friend’s birthday, with joy all around, your mood takes an about turn and you join the fun. So atmosphere decides mood.

The next to affect our mood are thoughts. If you read and think more about philosophy of living and the why and how of life, your mood automatically becomes serious. One needs a balance in life to keep a sane head all the time. Otherwise, either you will be always cheerful about everything and take nothing seriously or you will remain sad for most of the time. Bring a balance in your life, in your mind.

Coming to Valentine’s Day, one has to get into the mood of romance. How to do that? Here are some tips. Read more romantic stories/novels or thoughts. Go window shopping near places that stock Valentine’s gifts. Download few Valentine’s day wallpapers or screensavers. Talk to your friends about how love changes life. Avoid any serious topic for few days. Choose clothes that energize you. Go for colors rather than whites. Shop for a lovely gift for your sweetheart. Buy some flowers. Small things will add to your mood and by the time the Valentine’s Day arrives, you will be in a romantic mood.

Hertz Truck Rental The Best Truck Rental Company I Know Of

Filed under: Travel Portal — admin @ 9:37 am

Yes, I’d like to advertise this company. It has never let me down. Hertz truck rental company, with 24′ trucks as well as 15′ and 20′ ones, reasonable prices and 24/7 assistance in case of an accident or a truck breakdown, offers quite a lot of business opportunities.

How can I find Hertz truck rental website?

Finding them on the Net is very easy. Simply type www.hertztruck.com <http://www.hertztruck.com> and you’re at their website. Navigation might be a little difficult at first, as you will probably spend a few minutes looking for a sub page where you will be able to actually rent the truck you need, but beside this nuisance, the Hertz truck rental website offers you all necessary information about their trucks and their rental possibilities.

What are their conditions?

Hertz truck rental conditions are quite similar to their competitors’. Towing, driving off-road, taking seats out of the car etc. is forbidden. Being late or dropping the car in a different location may result in paying the higher fee, but generally Hertz truck rental does not offer anything really unusual. The only difference is that they always keep to their part of the agreement. No last-minute changes and no problems with getting your truck after booking it. At least I’ve never heard of any of such problems at Hertz truck rental.

Is there a catch?

Well, actually there is one. Maybe not even a catch, because they warn you about it. Hertz truck rental has its offices in a lot of countries and sometimes the details of the agreements may vary depending on the country where you sign the agreement. Things that are allowed at one Hertz truck rental office may be banned at another. For example in some countries you have to drive yourself the car you rented, in others you may give the car to someone else. It’s not a problem if you’re renting a truck in US, but if you live in Europe, you have to be careful. It isn’t Hertz truck rental’s fault, so they can do nothing to help you – the agreements has to be prepared according to the local laws.

French Riviera Tourism -The Carnival of Nice

Filed under: Travel Portal — admin @ 12:54 am

The ancient city of Nice on the French Riviera, sandwiched between Cannes and Antibes to the west and the principality of Monaco to the east, is a year-round resort and thriving commercial center. It is a city famous for many things, perhaps the most illustrious being the carnival that has taken place in February each year since the Middle Ages. The most widely-believed origin of the word “carnival” is from the old Italian “carne levare”, meaning “away with meat”. By the Middle Ages, the people of Nice, before fasting forty days, as appropriate for the Catholic tradition of Lent, enjoyed rich and plentiful dining.

To enjoy this time of festivity even more, every excess was permitted. It was also a time for making fun of everything and everybody at everyone’s expense. This involved the elaborate charade of concealment behind masks and disguises until Mardi Gras.

The first reference to a carnival in Nice in the history books dates back to 1294 when Charles d’Anjou, Count of Provence, mentions having spent “some joyous days of carnival” in the city. But In the 17th century excesses were brought under control by the “Abbés des Fous” whose role was to regulate the population. At this time, under the influence of the famous Venice Carnival, balls become more common that street entertainment.

During the major political upheavals during France’s eventful history, such as the French revolution or the first empire, the carnival was put on hold temporarily.

However, the first carnival parade, which is typical of the modern carnival, was inaugurated in 1830 in honor of Charles Felix and Marie-Christine, sovereigns of the Piedmont Sardinia Kingdom. The parade involved a display of thirty carriages before the king and Queen to announce the start of the carnival.

The carnival in the form we know it today was started in 1873, with the founding of the “Festival Committee” which would organize the carnival and massively increase it in size under the patronage of the city’s governors. Now parades and floats, paying stands and a more organized event made their appearance.

It was at this time that one of the carnival’s most spectacular and fascinating features was born. The local artist Alexis Mosssa together with his son Gustav Adolf brought a surprising particularity, at once both fabulous and grotesque – the now famous giant models which have become its hallmark.

The first Flower Procession was started in 1876 on the Promenade des Anglais. The same location has been used ever since and it has developed into a glorious show, an important part of today’s carnival.

Nice carnival always tries to be topical in its annual choice of theme, if indeed a little irreverent, in keeping with the spirit if the original carnival. Cartoonists and artists from around participate in creating some of the designs used in the parades. In 2002, to celebrate the King of Euroland, artists created their vision of the introduction of the Euro. In 2004, the artistic requirements became even higher as the carnival producers engaged several sculptors to further improve the originality of the floats.

For the 2005 carnival, the model creators were all trained to use “plastazote”, a thin foam that made highly intricate but lightweight designs possible. The result was the creation of many giant heads.

Carnival themes are becoming increasingly more philosophical and satirical in nature. The 122nd edition of the carnival in 2006 has the theme “King of Dupes”, intending to illustrate the paradoxes of contemporary society where the real and the virtual mix, to the extent that their respective boundaries are no longer discernible, creating a sort of showbiz culture. Here the carnival parades become “virtual moons of green cheese” and the flower parades are made of “fantasy and illusion”.

10 Ways To Find The Best Price On Hotels

Filed under: Travel Portal — admin @ 10:09 am

Planning a trip has become increasing difficult as there are so many options to choose from. After finding a hotel that suits all your needs you need to ascertain whether you are getting a good rate. When you ask a travel agent or refer to a brochure for rates what you get is the generally quoted rate for room. But if you are wise you can get a better deal and save a lot of money.

1. Surf the net and see what online travel sites like Expedia, Hotels.com, or Travelocity are offering. Or you could browse the hotel web site to find a good deal. Many sites list special offers as well as discounts.

2. Use a search tool to like BookingBuddy.com or Travel Axe to compare various offers and rates.

3. Look for what is known as “lowest rate guarantee” these are mainly on offer online but are subject to advance booking and very harsh cancellation policies. Even if the price offered online is attractive do call the hotel up and see if they are willing to better the rate.

4. Opaque-pricing travel sites like Hotwire or priceline do offer good rates for good hotels. The only downside is you cannot specify a hotel. All you can do is indicate where you want accommodation. The reservation needs to be made online and is non refundable and one cannot change plans or cancel.

5. Consider purchasing an Entertainment book discount for between US$22 to 45. Becoming a member entitles you to discounts of 50% on the rack rate of member hotels. But these discounts are only available when the occupancy rate of the hotel is less than 80%. Check out the great options at: http://www.entertainment.com/discount/home.shtml.

6. Ask about weekend rates. Often hotels that cater to business travelers have great rates on what they consider off season, weekends.

7. If you plan your trip well in advance you could get a discount of 50% or more during off season.

8. Some hotels have special rates for members of AAA, American Automobile Association and other professional bodies or clubs. Call the hotel of your choice and ask them if they do have such schemes.

9. If you are traveling in a group ask about group rates or family rates. Most hotels have different options for multiple bookings. Some even offer a day or two additional stay at no extra cost.

10. When you leave the airport or railway station or just drive in to a town stop at a gas station and find out if they have hotel coupon booklets. These many a time have great offers for visitors.

To get the best deal you need to be thorough as well as flexible. Just as you spend time sourcing air tickets at bargain prices you can do the same for hotel bookings. Read all travel offers carefully, set aside any discount booklets your bank or credit card company sends you for use when you travel. If you are smart you will save quite a lot.
